# snscrape alternative for Twitter scraping in Python

> snscrape Twitter scrapes have failed since June 2023. Xquik searches tweets from Python with no X account or cookies, at USD 0.00015 a tweet. See the code.

snscrape is an open-source Python scraper for social networks. Its Twitter module stopped working in 2023. This page shows what broke and how to run the same jobs with Xquik.

## What happened to snscrape on Twitter

[Issue #846](https://github.com/JustAnotherArchivist/snscrape/issues/846) reported in April 2023 that Twitter searches failed with `blocked (403)`. [Issue #996](https://github.com/JustAnotherArchivist/snscrape/issues/996) opened on 2023-06-30. It says all Twitter scrapes fail with `blocked (404)`. It was still open on 2026-11-04.

The last snscrape release, v0.7.0.20230622, came out 8 days before that issue. The repository has had no commit since then.

## Search tweets without an X account

Xquik's Python SDK runs each search on Xquik's infrastructure. You add no X account and no cookies. So no account of yours can get banned.

```bash theme={null}
pip install x_twitter_scraper
export X_TWITTER_SCRAPER_API_KEY="xq_YOUR_KEY_HERE"
```

```python theme={null}
from x_twitter_scraper import XTwitterScraper
client = XTwitterScraper()
page = client.x.tweets.search(q="python since:2026-10-01 until:2026-10-02", limit=10)
for tweet in page.tweets:
    print(tweet.id, tweet.text)
```

Each returned tweet costs 1 credit, or USD 0.00015 with pay-as-you-go credits. Empty searches cost nothing. Continue with `next_cursor` to read the next page.

Xquik keeps the X search operators you send, such as `from:`, `since:` and `until:`. The [operator list](https://github.com/Xquik-dev/x-twitter-advanced-search) covers the rest.

## snscrape vs Xquik

| Area | snscrape | Xquik |
| - | - | - |
| Twitter status | Every Twitter scrape fails, per issue #996. | Search, timelines, replies and followers work today. |
| X account | None needed while it worked. | None needed. Xquik needs only its own API key. |
| Cost | Free under GPL-3.0. | 1 credit per returned tweet, USD 0.00015 pay-as-you-go. |
| Output | Python objects, or JSON Lines from the CLI. | JSON pages, plus CSV, JSON or XLSX export files. |
| Upkeep | You fix the scraper when X changes. | Xquik keeps the API working when X changes. |

## Move a snscrape job to Xquik

**1. Copy the query**

Keep the search string you passed to snscrape. Xquik reads the same operators.

**2. Swap the call**

Replace the scraper class with the Xquik call from the table above. Map each field you stored to the new response.

**3. Page and store**

Read `next_cursor` until it is empty. Store tweet IDs so a rerun skips rows you already have.

**4. Export large pulls**

Run an extraction job for thousands of tweets. Download the result as CSV, JSON or XLSX.
